To Have and To Hold Cupcakes

Difficulty Level: Easy

A simple cupcake and poetic picks are all you need to pull off these clever cupcakes. Feel free to change the words to customize your message. If chipboard letters are hard to find, you can cut your own from cardstock.

Bakery/Cake Goods needed:

• Your favorite batch of vanilla cupcakes


• 1 recipe of butter cream frosting in white

Scroll Supplies:

• Small amount of pre-made black fondant


• White parchment or velum paper


• Black calligraphy pen or computer printer


• Scissors


• Pencil


• Toothpicks


• Tape

Cupcake Icing Tools:

• Pearlized Sprinkles (we used Wilton's Sugar Pearls in white)


• Wilton 1M Star Tip


• Icing Bag

Finishing Touches:

• White cupcake liners and filigree cupcake wrappers

Directions for making the Picks:

Step 1: Roll fondant into a long strand. Shape into a "&" symbol. Allow to dry overnight.

Step 2: Draw out two rectangle shapes that are 4-1/4” tall and 3-1/2” wide. In order to create the scroll shape, measure in 1/2” from the top right and mark the spot with a pencil. Do the same in the bottom left corner of the rectangle.

Step 3: Draw a line from the bottom right corner to the top right pencil mark. Repeat this step with the other side. You should now have a rectangle with two lines drawn on either side.

Step 4: With the calligraphy pen or using your computer, write or type out the words in the center of the rectangles and within the pencil marks -- "To Have" in one rectangular section and -- "To Hold" in another. Cut out the slanted rectangles with a pair of scissors. Using a pencil, roll up the top and bottom. Roll the top away from letters and roll the bottom toward the letters. Attach a toothpick to the back of each scroll with tape.

Directions for Icing the Cupcake:

Step 1: Fill the icing bag with white butter cream and fit the opening with the 1M Star tip. Using a circular motion, squeeze out icing to cover the top of the cupcake cakes.

Step 2: Add the pearlized sprinkles and carefully place your scrolls and fondant "&."

Finishing Touches:

Place each cupcake in a filigree wrapper.
