Snowman Cupcake

Difficulty Level: Experienced to Advanced

This creative snowman cupcake features a holiday favorite – the Snowman. You will have conjured “Frosty’s” spirit up for a little Yuletide fun for your next gathering. This cupcake features a creamy blue butter cream frosting with white candy sprinkles. If you prefer, you can use smooth fondant.


Bakery/Cake Goods needed:

  • Your favorite batch of vanilla cupcakes
  • Your favorite butter cream frosting tinted light blue
Snowman Decorating Supplies:
  • Pre-made batch of fondant in white
  • Orange and Red paste food colors
  • Small food safe paint brush
  • Round Black Candy Sprinkles
  • Rolling Pin
  • Small knife
  • Tooth Picks
Cupcake Decorating Tools:
  • Wilton 1M Star Icing Tube
  • Icing Bags
  • White candy sprinkles
Finishing Touches:
  • Red or silver cupcake liners OR Christmas themed cupcake wrapper
Directions for making the Snowman:

Step 1: After kneading the fondant, break off a two small balls one larger than the other.

Step 2: Using the paint brush and a little water, adhere the two balls together one ball sitting atop the other. Use your fingers to work the fondant until the snowman can sit upright.

Step 3: Break off a small amount of fondant and color it orange and another small amount a color red. With the orange fondant, break off very small pieces and roll into a sausage. Cut the sausage into sections to form tiny cones. This will form the snowman’s nose. With the red fondant, roll out on a flat surface. Using the knife cut fondant into long strips. Cut fringes into each of the ends. This will form the snowman’s scarf.

Step 4: With the black round sprinkles, press into the snowman’s head for form eyes. Press other candies into his chest to form buttons. Using the paint brush and a little water, attach the nose.

Step 5: Again with the paint brush and a little water, paint around the “neck” of the snowman and wrap the scarf around the snowman’s neck.

Directions for Icing the Cupcake:

Step 1: Place 1M Star tip into an icing bag and fill with blue butter cream. In a swirl motion, ice the top of the cupcake.

Step 2: Place a snowman on top of each cupcake. Sprinkle on white candy sprinkles.

Finishing Touches for your snowman cupcake:

If you’ve already baked your cupcake in a colorful complimentary liner, you are set to go. You can also embellish your cupcake with a fun Christmas themed cupcake wrapper – purchased or one you made yourself. A snowflake themed cupcake wrapper would work nicely here.
