Embossed Heart
Mothers Day Cupcakes
Difficulty Level: Experienced

The old fashioned look of these Mothers Day cupcakes will bring a smile to any mother or grandmother's face. You can change up the colors using a creamy ivory, pale lavender or even peach. Don't be afraid to experiment!
Bakery/Cake Goods Needed:
- Your favorite batch of vanilla cupcakes
- Your favorite butter cream frosting recipe
Decorating Supplies:
- 1 small batch of premade fondant
(you can use premade or homemade)
- Food Coloring
(we used Wilton’s paste food coloring in Pink
and grocery store red liquid food coloring)
- Small rolling pin
- Floral pattern stamp(clean and brand new)
- Metal heart-shaped cutter
(we used the medium 1-1/2” heart cutter from
Wilton’s Heart Fondant Cut-outs)
- Small floral cutter
- Wax Paper
- White Ball Sprinkles and Pearlized
White Ball Sprinkles (we used Wilton’s Sugar Pearls in white)
- Pink Pearlized Dust
Cupcake Icing Tools:
- Wilton 1M Star Tip
- Icing Bag
Finishing Touches:
- Pink or White cupcake liners and a Lacey Cupcake Wrapper
Making the Embossed Hearts:
Step 1: Tint fondant pink and roll out on a flat surface. With the floral stamp, stamp the surface of the fondant pressing stamp into fondant to create a pattern.
Step 2: Using heart-shaped cutter, cut out hearts. Set aside on wax paper to dry.
Making the Small Flowers:
Step 1: Roll out white fondant on a flat surface, with the floral/petal cutter, cut out flower shapes. You'll need two for each cupcake.
Step 2: Gently shape the flower using a shaping tool like a sponge and a rounded dowel. Set aside to harden.
Icing the Cupcakes:
Step 1: Tint the butter cream a light pink with a drop of red food coloring.
Step 2: Fill the icing bag with butter cream and fit the opening with the Wilton 1M star metal tip.
Step 3: Starting from the outside edge of the cupcake, use a circular motion and squeeze the icing out to cover the cupcake.
Decorating the Mother’s Day Cupcakes:
Step 1: Place an embossed heart on it's side at the center of the cupcake. Carefully place the pearlized sprinkles around the heart.
Step 2: Put a few white ball sprinkles in a zip lock bag. Sprinkle in the pink pearlized dust. Close the bag and shake to coat the candy with dust.
Step 3: At the base of the heart, place two white fondant flowers. Dab a bit of butter cream in the center and place a pink coated sprinkle in the center.

Tea Cup Mothers Day Cupcakes

These Mothers Day cupcakes look absolutely lovely in their tea cup “wrappers” and are certain to win your mother’s heart. Cluster them together for a beautiful table top cupcake display or set them on a tray with roses in single bud vases.
Bakery/Cake Goods Needed:
- Your favorite batch of vanilla cupcakes
- Your favorite butter cream frosting recipe
Rose Decorating Supplies:
- Food Coloring (we used Wilton’s paste food coloring in Pink and Moss Green)
- Wilton #104 Petal tip
- Wilton #66 Leaf tip
- Flower Nail
- Wax paper
- Icing Bag
- Coupler Ring
Cupcake Icing Tools:
- Metal Spatula
- Wilton #12 Round Tip
- Icing Bag
Finishing Touches:
- Pink cupcake or white cupcake liners
- Various floral tea cups
Making the Icing Roses:
Step 1: Cut wax paper into small squares to fit the flower nail. Set aside.
Step 2: Reserve 2 cups of butter cream and leave it white. Tint two cups light pink. Tint one cup of butter cream moss green.
Step 3: Fill an icing bag with half white and half pink icing and fit the opening with the #104 petal tip.
Step 4: Place a small dab of frosting on the flower nail and attach a wax paper square.
Step 5: Place the fat side of the petal tip on the surface of the flower nail and twirl the nail while squeezing out the icing using even pressure to form an icing cone.
Step 6: Placing the fat side of the tip mid-way down the cone, squeeze out icing while turning the nail, bringing the tip up and into a slight curve before bringing it back down again. With this first row, you will be piping approximately three slightly overlapping petals.
Step 7: Move down to the base of the cone and turn the tip to about a 45 degree angle. Pipe a second row of five overlapping petals.
Step 8: Place the petal tip almost parallel to the flower nail and pipe the final row of overlapping petals.
Step 9: Place your piped roses on a plate or tray and freeze them.
Icing the Cupcakes:
Step 1: Fill the icing bag with white butter cream and fit the opening with a Wilton #12 Round metal tip.
Step 2: Starting from the outside edge of the cupcake, use a circular motion and squeeze out an icing ring following the edge of the cupcake.
Step 3: Using the spatula, fill in the center with additional butter cream and smooth the surface.
Decorating your Mothers Day Cupcakes:
Step 1: Fill an icing back with the moss green frosting. Fit the opening with a #66 leaf tip.
Step 2: Using a butter knife to lift a frozen rose from the wax paper and carefully place it on the cupcake. Pipe a leaf with the #66 leaf tip.
Step 3: Place each cupcake in a tea cup.
