The Cricut cupcake wrapper is one of the newest dies or patterns available to cupcake artists courtesy of the scrap booking crafters. But these cutters have been on the market for some years now. Sizzix was a familiar name in the early days, having been the first readily available manual die cutting machine. The device eventually evolved into an electronic cutter. Made by the same company as the Sizzix, Cricut machines have now become a standard offering. Cricut produces a line of electronic cutters that use cartridge templates to cut patterns, but some can also be connected to your computer for loading templates. (Don't be discouraged. The Cricut line still has a manual machine called the Cuttlebug that allows users to cut pieces the old fashioned way.)
Own a manual cutter? No worries. Cupcake wrapper cutting dies exist for those machines as well. If you've only got a few cupcake wrappers to make, tracing out cupcake wrappers on paper and cutting them out one-by-one is fine, but a die cutting machine makes this a snap!

If you happen to be one of the people who already own a an electric cutting machine, you are in luck! The Cricut cupcake wrapper template is available through their Cricut "Lite" line and can be used on any of the Cricut electronic cutters. Not only that, it makes cutting wrappers very easy.
As an added bonus for cupcake decorators, the cupcake wrapper template comes with cupcake topper patterns, too. Toppers are die cuts that compliment the cupcake wrapper design and can be taped to toothpicks and inserted into the cupcakes to complete your design.
You can also find electronic templates being sold by individual designers. Called .svg files, these templates can be an intricate as filigree or simple as a scallop.

Since Sizzix has launched a whole new line of products, those of us who held on to our original machines may feel a little left behind in the whole cupcake trend. Luckily, you can still cut wrappers with your old Sizzix machine if you don’t mind making a few adjustments. Here’s what you’ll need:
Original Sizzix Die Cutting Machine
Sizzix System Converter
Sizzix Adapters
Cupcake Wrapper Dies (we purchased BossKut Cup Cake wrapper dies in Plain and Scalloped patterns)
Paper for the Cupcake Wrapper
The BossKut dies are much thinner than the Sizzix ones which is why you’ll need the converter and adapters. Attach the converter to your Sizzix press plate. On the cutting pad stack your paper, wrapper die and finally the adapters. Start pressing out your cut by moving the material through the press opening. You will be impressed with how nicely these turn out!
Special Note: This does work except the white plastic cutting plate is not long enough. You will need to reposition your cupcake wrapper die and paper as you get toward the end of the die. Also, since the adapter does not fit the width and length of the die and the die back is not made of sturdy plastic, the adapter will emboss into the back of the BossKut die.
